{"id":210,"date":"2017-05-07T16:51:34","date_gmt":"2017-05-07T21:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vintage.excited-geek.com\/blog\/?page_id=210"},"modified":"2017-05-07T16:51:34","modified_gmt":"2017-05-07T21:21:34","slug":"creating-a-bootable-prodos-hard-drive-image","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.vintage.excited-geek.com\/blog\/recipes\/apple-ii\/emulation\/creating-a-bootable-prodos-hard-drive-image\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating a Bootable ProDOS Hard Drive Image"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is how I have created a bootable ProDOS hard drive image for use with both AppleWin and the Floppy EMU on my Apple \/\/c.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a blank hard drive image using CiderPress.<\/li>\n<li>Download a bootable ProDOS floppy disk image.\u00a0 I used the ProDOS System Disk 4.0.2 which has ProDOS, BASIC.SYSTEM and the System Utilities programs.\u00a0 They can be found at Asimov with this link:\u00a0 <a href=\"ftp:\/\/ftp.apple.asimov.net\/pub\/apple_II\/images\/masters\/prodos\/PRODOS-8%20v4.0.2%20System.dsk\">ProDOS 4.0.2 System Disk<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Start AppleWin.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Configuration Icon (Joystick\/Speaker) and choose the Disk tab.<\/li>\n<li>Check the enable hard disk controller box.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Select HDD 1 button and choose the image you created in CiderPress.<\/li>\n<li>Click on OK.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the icon for floppy drive 1 and choose the bootable floppy image you downloaded.\u00a0 Click on the Open button.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Apple icon to boot AppleWin.<\/li>\n<li>You should get a message *** UNABLE TO LOAD PRODOS ***.<\/li>\n<li>On the Apple II you would do a control-reset, but AppleWin uses control-break to get to the ] prompt.<\/li>\n<li>At the prompt enter PR#6 to boot your ProDOS image.<\/li>\n<li>Once it was booted I chose System Utilities.<\/li>\n<li>When the System Utilities program is started up I chose Copy Files.<\/li>\n<li>Choose Slot and Drive for the Source.<\/li>\n<li>Enter 6 and 1 for floppy drive 1.<\/li>\n<li>Choose Slot and Drive for Destination.<\/li>\n<li>Enter 7 and 1 for your hard drive image.<\/li>\n<li>Choose Some files.<\/li>\n<li>Use the arrow keys to highlight and space to select PRODOS and BASIC.SYSTEM and press Return to copy the files that will make it bootable.<\/li>\n<li>Press Return when Copying complete.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At this point the hard drive image should be bootable and you can reboot by clicking on the Apple icon.\u00a0 I would suggest creating\u00a0a subdirectory on your image and copying the system utilities programs into it.\u00a0 Then you would have them available.<\/p>\n<p>Last Update: 07-May-17<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is how I have created a bootable ProDOS hard drive image for use with both AppleWin and the Floppy EMU on my Apple \/\/c. &nbsp; Create a blank hard drive image using CiderPress.
